Acne is common with short haired dogs and even more common with Bulldogs. Acne will usually start forming (if it starts at all) around the age of 5-8 months. Although the exact reason for acne has not been found it is commonly believed that it can be related to genetics, hormones and even trauma.
What to look for
Treatment
Treatment for acne is usually topical treatment. Due to the sensitivity and
thinner skin of dogs, you should never use human medication (benzoyl peroxide
for example) to treat your dog's acne. Instead, you should refer to your
veterinarian for proper treatment.
To help prevent acne, you should keep your bulldogs face as clean as possible. Use unscented baby wipes to clean your bulldogs face as needed (or daily).
